Illinois State Senate Candidate Bill Gentes

The Environment

The Issues:

  • Regulation of industrial development.
  • Rampant development of all available open land in many areas.
  • Illinois ranks in the top 15% of most polluting states.

The Impacts:

  • Water quality is deteriorating in many areas.
  • Flooding is a concern when major developments disturb natural water flow.
  • Air quality impacts many individuals with breathing problems.

The Actions:

  • Work with communities in dealing with water purity concerns.
  • Work with communities, builders and others to deal with the environmental impacts of large construction projects.
  • Work with organizations concerned with the environment to determine what more can be done.
  • We need to insure that industrial pollution is closely regulated.
  • Building Route 53 will reduce automobile emissions which are a major pollutant.  Cars backed up on roadways emit 40% more toxins into the air than traffic that is moving.  Therefore, getting traffic off of local roads will improve the environment in numerous cities, towns and villages.
